The Beginning: NFTs and Whiskey Wednesday
In 2022, Smolrun was born from an experiment with NFT technology. A platform to collaborate with artists worldwide and bring their work to life on the blockchain. What emerged alongside this creative journey was something unexpected: a community that bonded over late-night Twitter Spaces we affectionately called "Whiskey Wednesday."
The spaces were rarely on Wednesdays, but the whiskey was always present. Those conversations became the heartbeat of our community. Raw, authentic, and fueled by a shared love for good spirits and great company.
A Shift in Focus
As the NFT landscape evolved and interest waned, Smolrun pivoted toward blockchain gaming and innovative token concepts. But one constant remained: our passion for whiskey. It wasn't just a drink. It was the thread that connected our community through every late night and every new venture.
From Hobby to Obsession
In 2025, Smolrun founder Anthony Bautista took the plunge. What started as purchasing a single whiskey barrel as an investment quickly spiraled into something far more significant: 2 bourbon barrels, 2 scotch barrels, 6 tequila barrels, and an insatiable thirst for more.
The Discovery
What Anthony discovered went far beyond financial returns. He found himself with access to something extraordinary: barrels that most enthusiasts only dream about. Bourbons aged far longer than industry standards. Rare scotch distilled once per decade. Expressions that simply don't exist on store shelves.
These weren't just investments. They were liquid time capsules, each with a story, each irreplicable. This realization sparked the idea for Smolrun Spirits Club.
